Its market share exceeds 20% of nickel, 10% of cobalt and 3.1% of copper production worldwide. Domestically, MMC Norilsk Nickel holds close to a 96% market share of nickel, 55% of copper and 95% of cobalt production. ÌÌÑ Norilsk Nickel and its subsidiaries produce the following products:
Affinated metals of platinum group:Electrolytic and carbonyl (powder) nickel, copper, metallic cobalt, cobalt oxides, and PGMs are the main export products of the Company.Information about registration under REACH We are pleased to announce that all the products of our Company will be pre-registered and registered under REACH. For this purpose, our Company is a member of all the relevant consortia.
Please note that Norilsk Nickel Finland Oy is MMC Norilsk Nickel's “only EU representative” for the purposes of REACH.
We are pleased to announce that in early 2007, the Nickel Institute, of which we are a member company, officially launched its REACH implementation plan focused on Consortia formation. The Nickel REACH Consortia comprise EU and non-EU manufacturers, importers, and downstream users of nickel and nickel inorganic compounds to ensure their compliance with the REACH requirements such as Pre-Registration, Registration, and Communication throughout the supply chain. Nickel REACH consortia were the first consortia formed by the metals industry for the purposes of REACH.
The Nickel Risk Assessment (covering nickel metal, nickel sulphate, nickel carbonate, nickel chloride and nickel nitrate), which is a scientific basis for the Consortia formation, is now finalised. All the scientific data gathered under this exercise is transferred to REACH Consortia in order to enable the industry to duly register nickel and nickel compounds.
The Nickel Industry has also prepared draft exposure scenarios for nickel in identified uses. May we use this opportunity to remind you that as downstream user, you also have some liabilities regarding REACH. For example, you will be asked to communicate to your supplier the uses of nickel you want to see covered by registration. In this respect, a standard questionnaire common to the entire non-ferrous metals industry will be sent to you. This questionnaire will facilitate the communication in the supply chain.
Please do not hesitate to consult Nickel REACH consortia website (www.nickelconsortia.org) for more information on REACH implementation and on how to join the nickel consortia as well as relevant information on the issues of Ni-containing substances classification. Should you require any further information, including the filled-in questionnaires, please address it to Mrs Leila Laine (Norilsk Nickel Finland OY) who is in charge of the Norilsk’s Group preparation to REACH implementation. – Ahventie 4b, PO box 46, FI-02171, Espoo, Finland, +3580253711; Leila.laine@nornik.fi
