The copper-nickel reserves of the Zhdanovskoye, Zapolyarnoye, Kotselvaara and Semiletka Fields were further explored and upgraded to higher classification categories.
Severny Mine is developing Pechenga ore fields (the Kola Peninsula), including the Zhdanovskoye, Zapolyarnoye, Kotselvaara and Semiletka (Kaula-Kotselvaara Mine) Fields. In addition to those, Severny Mine’s licence block also spans the Sputnik, Bystrinskoye, Tundrovoye and Verkhneye Fields. Severny Mine (including Kaula-Kotselvaara Mine) produces disseminated sulphide ores containing nickel, copper and other commercial components.
Kola MMC’s Concentrator (Zapolyarny) produces copper-nickel concentrate subjected to briquetting (similar to South Africa’s Nkomati concentrate, which also undergoes briquetting).
Briquettes are delivered to the smelting facilities of Kola MMC (Nickel) to produce converter matte. Refining Shop and Nickel Electrolysis Shop (Monchegorsk) process converter matte from the smelting facilities and Polar Division, as well as copper cake from Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta (Finland).
