An orthodox chapel built with Norilsk Nickel participation was sanctified in Johannesburg

In Johannesburg (South Africa) an orthodox chapel built with financial and logistic support of the Company, was sanctified.

The chapel was erected as a cathedral chapel by the temple of venerable Sergius of Radonezh, the only orthodox temple in Africa to the South of Sahara.  The construction was blessed by His Holiness Cyril, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, in the memory of Russian volunteers perished in Anglo-Boer war of 1899-1902. The cornerstone of the chapel was laid in April, 2013.

Festive events took place in the temple premises with participation of Russian Orthodox Church delegation headed by Mark, archbishop of Yegorievsk, ambassadors of Russia, Belorussia, Ukraine and Serbia. Norilsk Nickel was represented by V.I.Gasumyanov, head of Corporate safety Directorate.
