Bystrinsky GOK (Mining and Processing Plant), which is scheduled for launch by Nornickel on 31 October, has arranged for the full range of state-of-the-art personal protective equipment to be provided to employees. GRK Bystrinskoye has allocated over RUB 75 m for these purposes in 2017, with annual occupational health and safety expenses per employee totalling RUB 106,000.
In 2017, the facility has received over 2,000 summer and winter sets of personal protective equipment, all of them having undergone mandatory certification and complying with GOST standards.
The personnel is exposed to hazardous and harmful workplace factors (mining operations, operation and maintenance of mining equipment, use of heavy self-propelled vehicles). Caring about its employees, the Company supplements technical and organisational safety measures with the provision of personal protective equipment, used either against general industrial pollution (protective clothing) or for protecting feet (protective footwear), head (helmet), eyes (glasses), respiratory system, hands and face. The equipment is selected based on the Transbaikal climatic conditions: the region belongs to climatic zone III, with temperatures in Gazimuro-Zavodsky District ranging from 40°C above zero in summer to 48°C below zero in winter.
According to Nikolay Kurochkin, Deputy CEO for HSE at GRK Bystrinskoye, prior to centralised procurement, the Company tests samples of protective clothing from leading manufactures, and the decision on their application is made after comprehensive examination. Nornickel gives priority to innovative materials with such properties, as hypoallergenicity, thermoregulation, wear resistance, ESD protection, etc.
