A laboratory of electric drives, electric machines and appliances was set up at the Polytechnic College of the Norilsk Industrial Institute. Among educational and training equipment purchased with funds provided by Norilsk Nickel are up-to-date multifunctional benches to carry out lab and practical work in disciplines “Drive of Tunneling Machines”, “Drive of Mining Machines”, “Electric Drive”, mastered by 3rd- and 4th-year students.
All benches are equipped with state-of-the-art electronic systems and controllers enabling students to examine operation modes and ways to adjust rotation frequency of both direct current motors and alternating current motors in detail.
The company and the college have been cooperating for many years. The educational institution prepares for the MMC specialists in: workflow and production automation, subsurface mining, thermal power stations, maintenance and servicing of electric and electromechanical equipment (by industries), as well as maintenance and repair of automobile transports. Most graduates of engineering faculties of the college are employed by companies of the Norilsk Nickel Group.
In 2011, the college obtained a license for educational activities under the Subsurface Mining program, and in 2012, under the Mine Construction program. Both programs were developed upon request of the MMC’ Polar Branch. Last year, owing to intense and fruitful cooperation with Norilsk Nickel, the polytechnic college was ranked as one of 100 top higher education institutions of Russia in 2015. In 2016, with Norilsk Nickel’s support, another laboratory will be opened at the college to help students study boiler equipment.
