The initiative was announced by Sergei Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, at the final session dedicated to the Year of Environment in Russia. The working group’s priorities would include development of an environmental agenda and rendering assistance in addressing environmental issues. Elena Bezdenezhnykh, Nornickel’s Vice President, upheld the initiative: “This group will help coordinate the efforts of environmental organisations and promote a consensus on relevant items.” Nornickel is firmly committed to environmental sustainability. In 2017, the Company launched its Sulphur Project costing some RUB 150 bn. The project is expected to bring about a 75% reduction in sulphur dioxide emissions in Norilsk by 2023.
