Zapolyarny — In 2018, Nornickel will spend over RUB 3 bn to purchase new machinery and equipment for Kola MMC (part of the Nornickel Group) as part of its drive to replace the fixed assets. This will represent a
Severny mine is one of the major beneficiaries under this programme. It has already added 11 units of new mining and auxiliary equipment to its fleet.
Two self-propelled roof bolters to inspect and install roof support, two horizontal drilling rigs, three explosive chargers, and two load-haul dumpers (LHD) have all been deployed in underground operations.
The new equipment boasts improved technical specifications. For example, the LHDs are equipped with special weighing systems programmed to record information about ore load weights which is then transferred in the real-time mode not only to the driver, but also to the controller in charge of the machinery.
Another unique feature of the new LHDs is that they can be operated remotely. Remote control could prove useful in case of an emergency in the stoping areas.
To ensure safe operation of explosive chargers and roof bolters, they are now equipped with protective covers. Kola MMC made this technical requirement a mandatory condition for the manufacturers of underground machinery.
In 2018, Kola MMC will invest over RUB 800 m to purchase equipment for Severny mine. The mine is also set to receive a self-propelled unit for crushing oversize rock, two load-haul dumpers and drilling rigs.
