Nornickel has been recognized as the winner in two categories of the contest organized by the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP). The Company won in the categories “For Support and Development of Social Entrepreneurship” and “For Environmental Responsibility.”
RSPP selected the winners of the All-Russia Contest “Leaders of Russian Business: Dynamics and Responsibility 2016.” The awards were granted by order of RSPP President Alexander Shokhin.
The award in the category “For Environmental Responsibility” was granted to Nornickel for its comprehensive project to close down the Nickel Plant in Norilsk.
In accordance with the contest rules, the winner in the category had to score the highest number of points for reducing its environmental impact, operating certified environmental management systems, reducing payments, fines, and penalties for its adverse environmental impact, and participating in lawmaking and other social activities.
Nornickel also won in the category “For Support and Development of Social Entrepreneurship.” The jury noted the Company’s success in promoting social entrepreneurship in the Arctic (one of the areas under the World of New Opportunities charity program focused on tackling social problems in the places where Nornickel operates). The project includes organizing training courses for inhabitants of the Far North who decide to start businesses in their hometowns and providing financial support as interest-free loans for entrepreneurs.
The contest winners will receive awards in March 2017 during the Russian Business Week.
