Today, on June 28, 2020, at 08:20, a dispatcher at Nornickel’s Polar Division received information that recycled (or clarified) industrial water was flowing beyond the edges of a sump at the Talnakh Concentrator. Measures have been taken to stop the overflowing water.
The plant’s personnel made the decision to lower the water level through the use of mobile pumping stations, specifically by pumping the clarified industrial water to an adjacent area. An official investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident and representatives of supervisory and regulatory bodies are on site. There is no threat of waste leakage.
