Nadezhda Smelter made an important step to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions in Norilsk by more than 45% and significantly improve the quality of life in the Arctic city. The first results of the program will show in 2023. The program will reach full capacity in 2024. The baseline year for emission figures comparison is 2015.
The Sulfur Program is a comprehensive environmental project intended to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions at Nornickel’s factories. For the past five years, Nornickel implemented many initiatives to make a meaningful impact. The most significant one has been the construction and operation of the specially equipped SO2 capture and utilization site in Norilsk.
